Mohali, 21 April 2026: Hartek Foundation, the CSR arm of the Hartek Group, in collaboration with the Community Affairs Division of Punjab Police and Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), successfully conducted a capacity-building training program on Gender Responsive Policing at the Punjab Police Officers’ Institute (PPOI), Sector 32, Chandigarh. The session brought together police officials from 28 districts across Punjab, marking a significant step toward strengthening gender-sensitive law enforcement practices in the state.

The initiative is part of a larger program aimed at training over 2,000 police personnel across Punjab. In today’s session, more than 80 police officials actively participated in an intensive training module covering gender concepts, on-ground realities, and participatory pedagogy. The program is designed to equip participants with the skills and perspective needed to serve as future trainers, thereby enabling scalable and sustained impact.

The training was conducted under the leadership of Gurpreet Kaur Deo, IPS, Community Affairs Division, Punjab Police. Addressing the participants, she emphasized the importance of integrating gender perspectives into policing practices and called for a systemic shift towards more inclusive and equitable law enforcement. She highlighted that gender-responsive policing is essential for building public trust and ensuring fair and just outcomes for all sections of society.

This initiative is rooted in rigorous research and designed to enable long-term behavioural transformation within the police system. Through such collaborations, we aim to strengthen institutional capacities and contribute to building a more inclusive, empathetic, and responsive policing ecosystem.”
